Hi!
Welcome back! Today I would like to tell you a few words about the webinar in which I had a chance to take part. It was about making video lessons and recordings for our students.
Mrs. Małgorzata Gaca was our today's presenter. She said that she has experience in making videos for her preschool students. She has shared with us some useful tips on how to make our recordings interesting and involving for kids.
First of all Mrs. Gaca has told us what do we need to make a video lesson. The script is essential here to keep everything in the correct order. Thanks to this we will remain calm and be sure that our video will be easy to understand. Then we need a bunch of inspiration which we can find online, in books, or in other materials. With our presenter, we also went through a few parts of the video like introduction, warm-up, repetition, new games, repetition II. We should remember though to leave some time for our viewers to respond.
The presenter provided us with a few suggestions in terms of filming. She has explained different kinds of views in the movies - a long shot, medium shot, bird's-eye view, high angle, low angle, dutch angle - and when to use them. Mrs. Gaca has emphasized the importance of the light and background in the video as well. I found out that film editing can be helpful with sticking to the basic plan (time, order) and making everything work perfectly.
To sum up, I enjoyed this webinar a lot. I have prepared a few recorded presentations before but I still feel like I have many things to improve. Thanks to this webinar I finally know how!
What about you? Have you ever tried to record your lesson? What did you find the most challenging?
Let me know in the comments.

Hello!
A few days ago I had an amazing opportunity to take part in The power of... art and craft Webinar led by Mrs. Katarzyna Biernat.
Mrs. Katarzyna Biernat is a teacher in the Monnet International School. She has presented a few characteristics of the school like following International Educational Programme (IB) and Primary Years Programme (PYP), providing bilingual education and implementing Polish National Curriculum into those programmes. The mission of the school is "The joy of learning and teaching".
During this webinar Mrs. Biernat has shown us many different ways to get creative with our students. She has presented a lot of ideas and inspirations. We also had a chance to get creative while doing the warm-up activity. Our presenter asked us to draw 9 circles and change them into... something! I decided to turn 2 circles into a bike and the rest of them I turned into the sun, clock, ball, happy face etc. These drawings gave us the opportunity and reason to talk. We could describe them and explain why we made them. This would be a very nice activity to conduct in the classroom.
Mrs. Biernat has also told us about the benefits of doing arts and crafts in the classroom like:
- developing speaking skills while producing art,
- developing hand-eye coordination,
- turning it into introduction or revision of the topic,
- providing relaxation,
- practicing focus and attention span,
- providing student-student and teacher-student interaction.
The presenter has mentioned some do's and don'ts when it comes to implementing arts and crafts in the EFL classroom. First of all we should not engage children in such tasks in every lesson. This type of the activity should be unexpected and unpredictable. We have to always be enthusiastic and praise kids' work.
I really like that Mrs. Biernat has shared with us - where does she find inspiration? What was surprising - inspiration can be everywhere - in books, songs, stories, seasons, calendar. She has shown a few photos of her kids' work. I enjoyed the sock bunnies and snowmans the most!
Do you implement art and craft into your classroom? How?
Looking forward to your comments.

Hi!
Welcome back! Today I would like to share some thoughts about Speak:art Webinar "Teaching Young Learners Online led by Mrs. Ada Chmielewska and Mrs. Natalia Nesteruk in May 2020.
Mrs. Ada Chmielewska and Mrs. Natalia Nesteruk run a language school called Speak:art where they hire almost 30 teachers. They support non-public schools in Warsaw.
In their presentation there was a pyramid of priorities of online teaching in coronavirus time and the most important part was about teacher's relationships with students and parents and relations between students. Then there was community support and supporting resilience and the smallest part was actually effective online teaching. It was eye-opening to me that during this tough pandemic time and online teaching it is essential to keep these relationships in good condition.
They promote interactive live lessons for the remote education as well. The speaker has shown some advantages of online lessons according to the parents and teachers. Among them I was able to see not only kids' development (computer skills etc.) but also change of parents' point of view when it comes to teachers' job. Moreover there is no commute time which makes teaching and learning more convenient.
The presenters said that the perfect lesson is all about keeping the balance. As teachers we have to focus on the personal interactions in front of the camera (using realia, props), choosing good online materials to share via screen sharing mode and hands-on activities for students. Mrs. Chmielewska and Mrs. Nesteruk were showing some examples of online lessons in their groups. They used realia to grab students' attention. Their lessons were involving and full of authentic materials, pictures. Slideshows and online interactive games are also a good way to stimulate kids' thinking skills. What is interesting - teachers can make students move during online lessons too! Bringing a few objects to the camera can make a difference.
To conclude, I enjoyed the video and I would love to implement some of these tips into my online classroom.
What do you think? What do you find the most challenging in online teaching?

Hello!
Today I wanted to share some thoughts about an English lesson - Grade 0 - Kindergarten - we had a chance to watch during our classes.
What is different here? The teacher is using L1 during her classes.
- Phases of the lesson:
- Aims of the lesson:
- The aids the teacher uses:
- Problems
- What possible alternatives/ amendments/ improvements to the lesson structure can you think of?
- Was it a good lesson? What was it exactly that made it (un)successful?
From my point of view it was a good lesson. The teaching aids were very interesting and caught kids' attention successfully. There were many different activities and they were involving for the learners. The main thing to change is to limit the use of L1 when it is not necessary.
What are your thoughts about this lesson? What would you change?
Let me know in the comments section,

Hi!
Welcome back on my blog! Today I was able to take part in a webinar about learning through movement and action songs.
This webinar was led by Mrs. Marta Szymańska who is a kindergarten teacher. She works with 3-4 and 5-6 year olds. In her teaching she does not use any coursebooks. Our presenter is also not a big fan of plastic materials which are often used during lessons, CD and MP3 players, not eco-friendly paper teaching aids. Instead of these the teacher takes items which can be found easily in any classroom in ex. toys, crayons, illustrations. She adds movements as well so she uses her body parts to teach. In my opinion these are really good ideas and they are very good for our environment.
Songs can be used in many ways. Mrs. Szymańska told us that she sings to calm down or wake up her students. They are a great help when it comes to establishing routines in the classroom. Singing affects the musical development of children and is an amazing tool for speech therapy exercises.
Some - especially young - teachers may find singing difficult and embarrassing. Our presenter has shown us how much kids love singing teachers and told us not to be afraid of doing it. The key is to know the lyrics good enough and practice a little bit at home. You can always modify a song to make it more beneficial or adjust it to your students' level.
At the end of the webinar Mrs. Szymańska has shown us a few videos of her singing with kids in the kindergarten. I love them! I feel encouraged to sing with children and I hope I will try to do it soon! "Hello, how are you?" from Super Simple Songs is one of my favorites!
What about You? Do You like singing with kids?
Please let me know in the comments!

Hello!
Welcome back! A few days ago I had a great opportunity to take part in a Classroom Management Workshop with Mrs. Paulina Andruszkiewicz- Glińska.
Mrs. Paulina Andruszkiewicz- Glińska is a teacher and a blogger. She uses many creative ways to teach English. On her pages and blog she shares with people some useful tips and hacks on how to make learning English easy and involving for kids. She also posts interesting materials and invites to discussion on important issues connected to education. I would highly recommend her blog - From P with Love.
During this workshop, Mrs. Glińska has told us how important is to get to know our students. As teachers, we have to be aware that our pupils have quite short attention span and they are usually very active. These characteristics make it impossible to have a perfectly quiet classroom and that is OK! Despite this, we should be able to control the group which can be helped by concluding an appropriate contract. Such a paper is a set of norms and rules during lessons that everyone should follow.
The presenter also mentioned that classroom routines are the key to a good organization. I strongly agree with this statement. Thanks to proper routines we are able to avoid chaos and it is a great opportunity to add more second language as well. Here we can introduce some songs or rhymes like "Hello, how are you?" song for hellos and "See you later, alligator" for goodbyes.
Mrs. Glińska has shown us many useful online tools which I found really valuable. These are some of them:
1. www.classroomcharts.com - this page is great for making seating arrangements
2. www.online-stopwatch.com - this is an online stopwatch to help us with time management
To conclude, I have seen these strategies in use during my teaching practice and they work very well. I will use them myself for sure. What about you? Do you prepare contracts with your students? Do you have classroom routines?
I am looking forward to your comments.

Hi!
In today's post I wanted to share with You two videos of two different teachings. One of them is in Poland and another one is in China. I will write some aims and objectives of both lessons and answer a few questions below.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zApy3VdXRw&feature=youtu.be
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnWuS8ibce8&feature=emb_title
*AIMS*
POLAND:
- developing listening and speaking skills
- learning some names of the fruits
- developing counting skills
CHINA:
- developing listening and speaking skills
- learning some names of the fruits
- learning the difference between in/on (sink/float)
- learning there is a/an structure
*OBJECTIVES*
POLAND:
- students will be able to name 3 fruits (apple/pear/banana) and their colours
- students will be able to count to 6
- students will be able to count the fruits
CHINA:
- students will be able to name 4 fruits (apple/banana/orange/pear)
- students will be able to name 4 colours (red/yellow/green/blue)
- students will be able to say what is in and on (will be familiar with the structure in/on (sink/float))
- students will be able to use a/an in an appropriate way
*QUESTIONS*
1. Which teacher managed to achieve the aims/objectives better? Why?
In my opinion the Chinese teacher did better job. He reached the aims and the objectives in the most child-friendly way. His lesson was interesting, full of different and exciting tasks. The students were very engaged and wanted to participate in every activity. To be honest - he stole my heart. He seems to be such an inspiring teacher.
2. Is L1 necessary in teaching (very) young learners? Why?
Personally I think that it is not necessary to use L1 in teaching even very young learners. They hear things really well and quickly get more and more comfortable when the teacher speaks in a foreign language from the beginning. As we could see in the video of the Chinese teacher - kids are doing great without any elements of L1. In my opinion Polish teacher used too much L1 and it was not needed.
3. Which lesson did you like more? Why?
I liked the Chinese teacher's lesson more. I found his routines like clap your hands/ show me your hands very useful. He performed many different activities and kids were very engaged. I feel like his lesson was way more effective than the Polish teacher's one. He repeated phrases many times to make them easier to remember. Generally his attitude was incredibly positive.
What about You? Which lesson did you like more?
Let me know.

Hello!
A few days ago I had another great opportunity to take part in a webinar led by Mrs. Magdalena Jóźwicka. She is an early education and English teacher in a public kindergarten in Otwock. During her lessons she does not use any coursebooks. She prefers using hand-made materials, crafts and arts.
During our workshops Mrs. Jóźwicka gave us some examples of activities. There was a "Find my snowman game", memory games and trip around the world with Genibot which I liked very much.
The presenter also recommended us some songs which are easy to find on the Internet and kids love them, in example "Baby Shark".
Mrs. Jóźwicka said that it is never too early to start with literature. In her opinion books develop children's reading skills and positively influence their readership habits. She has shown us books like "Press here", "Mix it up", "Mam oko" series, "Don't let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!".
I strongly agree with her thought - learning through literature is the most beneficial for kids. There are skills like perceptivity or ability to focus which can be developed without ability to read or write!
I liked this webinar a lot. I found there many useful materials.
Do you know some of these books or songs?
Please let me know in the comment section below :)

Hi!
A few days ago I had an amazing opportunity to take part in the Using Visuals and Teaching English to Young Learners Online Webinar. It was a great place to exchange our teaching experiences and find a few more attractive tools to teach kids.
Our presenter was Mrs. Dominika Krawczyńska who is a teacher, speech therapist, sensory integration therapist and teacher trainer. It was a great honor to see her teaching tools and teaching tips coming from her experience.
I found out that teaching vocabulary to young learners can be easier thanks to using flashcards, realia, multimedia, gestures and miming. Realia are amazing especially during online teaching. As a teacher You can show students your kitchen and some utensils that You use there on your everyday basis.
I could also see how Mrs. Krawczyńska work with her kids using websites like linoit.com, wordwall, learningchocolate.com.
What is more the teacher showed us how she does a puppet show. We met Emil - a puppet who plays with kids games like odd one out, what color is your..?, true or false or have you got...? He is very helpful and students love him!
Mrs. Krawczyńska told us that it is a great idea to teach kids through art. Paintings and songs are the way of expressing yourself and children like to do it a lot! Drawing and painting make students feel that their work and involvement is appreciated. In my opinion this is really nice and I would like try it with my students in the future.
I really found this webinar inspiring and I have learned a lot thanks to Mrs. Krawczyńska. I would love to observe her lesson.
Did you have a chance to take part in a webinar like this? Let me know in the comment section below!

Hello!
In this post I want to share with You a video from Dąbrówka Primary School. I am also attaching my comments below.
Enjoy!
- What is my general thought about this lesson?
- What did I like?
- What would I do differently?
- Is an observation checklist a good tool to use while observing?
- Was my observation checklist useful?
Hi! Welcome back!
Today I want to share with You some thoughts about an English lesson at "Żagle" Primary School, grade 0.
Below You can find the video and my questions & answers about it. Enjoy!
✔ What is your general reflection on the lesson?
In my opinion this lesson was full of positive energy and involving for every student. Kids seemed to be very happy and excited about it. The teacher was prepared and used different methods and approaches. I found it amazing that he let children stand and move - instead of sitting all the time. Movement is a fundamental need for students of this age.
✔ How does the teacher maintain classroom discipline?
Students in this classroom were not quiet and sitting still. Despite this, I could see a lot of space for their creativity and activity. They were an integral part of the learning process which is one of the most important things. The teacher was silencing children frequently, but I am sure that they can work on that by for example introducing some silent sings.
✔ What could have been done better?I think that the teacher should introduce some rules that must be followed by both sides. It for sure would prevent from disorganization, chaos and too many choral answers. The teacher should also pay attention to the whole group. I found some kids at the back of the class being a little bit distracted and lost.
✔ What error correction strategies does the teacher apply? The teacher corrected some kids' wrong answers into the correct ones. Thanks to this reformulation he used children's knowledge and made students feel appreciated. He also applied a lot of repetition.
✔ How does the teacher use visual aids?
Flashcards are a great and simple visual aid and in my opinion kids love them! In the video the teacher performed also a football pitch game which I really liked. Nevertheless I would add some more visuals to this lesson. There are many videos, games, charts, worksheets that You can find in example on the Internet. They will make a lesson interesting and even more involving for students.
That was my point of view. Please let me know what do You think about the video in comments section below :)
Take care,
Zuzanna
